ONNIT

Welcome! You’ve built something really interesting in this space. Start us off by telling our readers what your business is all about and how you fit into the OF world.

I'm Erika Icon, and I own The Rub PR, one of the top PR firms in adult. We work with performers, creators, directors, studios, and companies. We handle everything from press releases to interviews, award nominations and wins, toy deals, mainstream movie deals, and magazine placements.

Each client has a blueprint of what they want, and this is something we discuss with them before they start. The team typically develops a marketing approach from the outset and follows it closely; we can adjust the direction when necessary. Our clients are blown away by the creativity we bring to marketing. My background as an art director and copywriter in advertising, writing for some of the top mainstream and adult publications, combined with my art degree from UCLA, has all come in handy as a publicist. PR is definitely not a one-size-fits-all thing.

What inspired you to dive into the business side of OnlyFans? Was there something missing in the space that you wanted to solve?

I was burnt out after working as an art director and copywriter in advertising. I needed something new. While planning my next move, I was browsing jobs on Craigslist. I saw an ad for a company that was the Netflix of porn, WantedList. They rented DVDs and had a queue similar to Netflix's original business model.

While working as a DVD buyer and running the place at WantedList, I became good friends with Megan Stokes, the VP of Shane’s World and a vendor. She gave me my first opportunity to do PR on a consulting basis. When Shane’s World was sold, I decided to make it my full-time job. I left WantedList and worked for a guy who owned two studios. Let's say it was a nightmare job, but it's good that it was because it gave me the idea to start my own company. When I started my company, there were only two other publicists, so there was definitely a need for another PR firm. That was 16 years ago, and The Rub PR is stronger than ever.

Recently, I was nominated for WIA Woman of the Year at the XBIZ Executive Awards, and I wished I had won, especially since Megan was presenting the award. It was interesting to come full circle in that way. I owe her a lot for giving me a shot and have thanked her many times.

Why do you love being a part of this industry, whether on the creator or business side?

I really do love my job. No two days are alike, and I would say most days, I'm excited to wake up and tackle the day. I also love the people. I've met some incredible people who have been lifelong friends, and some have gone on to become clients. Two of my best friends are industry podcasters — one was someone who reached out to us for guests, and another started out as a client. It's wild the people you meet and the roles they take on in your life.

Tell us something quirky, funny, or totally unexpected about your business journey so far!

There are so many crazy stories that have happened along the way. People tell me I should write a book, but I couldn’t use people’s real names. One that comes to mind was when I was filming “Botched” in Beverly Hills with Kimber James about 10 years ago. The paparazzi chased us because they thought she was Heidi Montag. Then, we filmed in a bar and a baby store in this woman’s garage. The whole crew cracked up when I said the baby doll made the O-face. Maybe we shouldn’t have filmed at the bar first. When the episode aired on TV, they took everything out of context. At one point, it had me saying working with Kimber was like a circus. It’s on Netflix now. People still recognize me, but I tell them they’re mistaken. I’d rather be known for my Cosmo, Wall Street Journal, and PR Week interviews.

How do you see the creator economy evolving, especially on platforms like OnlyFans?

I think OnlyFans, as a platform and others like it, could be gone in the next few years. Many performers are returning to the official site business model, as it offers fewer restrictions, paperwork, and other requirements. People miss the freedom and being the center of attention, rather than getting lost in the sea of different people on some of these sites. I think DVDs might even make a comeback with age restrictions and geo-blocking going on. We've already seen creators who said they would never work for studios becoming performers. We could go back to adult content in the 90s.

We’ve learned so much—let’s wrap with how people can find you, follow you, or reach out if they want to connect.

We're on X, IG, and TikTok at @therubpr. Look for our new company website, https://therubpr.com/, to launch in the next month. And I'm starting a podcast, High Tea with Porn Stars, which will be available on all major podcast platforms. We'll be discussing what people in the industry do when they're not working, so everyone can see that they're real people with hobbies and interests, too.

CREATOR PLATFORM

Building What Comes Next

Featuring: Richard Eamey

Yeah, so Ntice is a creator monetisation platform. At its core, it's built to give creators a safer, more reliable place to actually run their business. The problem we kept seeing, and this is what drove everything, is that creators are building real businesses with real income and real audiences. But their revenue can disappear overnight. Unclear rules, inconsistent enforcement, no real platform support. It's not sustainable, and it means creators are operating with a level of risk that I just don't think should exist. What makes us different is that we're a hybrid platform. We support human creators, AI creators, and everything in between. That's deliberate. The creator economy is evolving fast and we wanted to build something that reflects where it's actually going. We see AI as a genuinely powerful tool for real creators. A way to tell better stories, show more personality, and scale without burning out.

CollabGPS Takes Aim at Creator Chaos With New All-In-One Collab App

Featuring: Ted Buras

Hi there! So I just recently launched a web and mobile platform called CollabGPS - which has been a passion project of mine. I've been a part of the adult industry for going on 25 years now (in the background, doing video editing, content management - that sort of thing) and really saw how the industry has changed and evolved over all that time. I've met so many people who has become involved with creating their own content and through talking with them and looking at how a lot of them work on finding folks to collab with that there seemed to be a void in the way they network and find each other. It was through that and hearing from those that both have found great success and struggle to find the people they need to help make content that I thought a platform that focused on them was a great opportunity.

PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICES

Handing Over My Louboutins

Featuring: Kristy Ann

I actually began my career in front of the camera. I modeled professionally for about 15 years and spent several of those years active on OnlyFans as well. Being on the creator side taught me a lot about branding, audience connection, and the business strategy behind building a successful digital presence. There was a turning point when photographer Bob Patterson gifted me my first professional camera and encouraged me not to waste my eye for the craft. At the time I was honestly starting to feel like it might be time to hang up my Louboutins and step into something new. That gift ended up changing everything. Today I run KA Photography here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where I photograph models, content creators, and honestly anyone who simply wants to feel beautiful, powerful, and confident in their own skin. My goal isn’t just to take pretty pictures. It’s to help people see themselves the way the world already does. Because I’ve experienced the platform from the inside, I understand both the vulnerability and the strategy involved in building a sustainable presence.
