Thanks for having me! I’m Tom Berger, the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of German-Adult-News, a long-standing digital magazine that covers culture, trends, and the creator economy within the adult entertainment space.

I’ve been working in online media for more than two decades, and I founded our platform back in 2001 to give creators, industry professionals, and emerging talent a place where their stories can be told with professionalism and journalistic integrity.

German-Adult-News is a fully online, free-to-read B2C publication. As a German media outlet, we operate under national youth-protection guidelines and maintain an age rating comparable to FSK16, meaning all our content follows standards similar to a PG-13 framework—informative, respectful, and non-explicit. Our goal is to make industry insights and cultural perspectives accessible without crossing into graphic detail.

Over the years, our coverage has expanded into many areas of the entertainment world. We feature creators who use platforms like OnlyFans, but we also report on production companies, directors, producers, and the behind-the-scenes landscape. We cover international film releases, industry developments, and related lifestyle topics such as sex-positive culture and modern pleasure products—always from a culture-focused and journalistic point of view.

While we’re not a content studio ourselves, our role in the ecosystem is to spotlight the people and companies shaping today’s creator landscape and to offer context that helps audiences better understand the creative work happening across platforms.

In short, I run a digital magazine dedicated to telling meaningful stories about creators, companies, and the evolving culture of online entertainment—and I’m excited to share more with your readers.

We’re always curious—was your business a planned venture, or did it evolve naturally over time?

“It all evolved more naturally than it was ever planned, and to explain that, I have to go back a bit.
I started creating media when I was around 16 or 17, writing album reviews and interviewing bands for small underground music and film fanzines. By my early twenties, I was publishing my own zines—first focused on metal, later punk, Oi, and hardcore. This was still the pre-internet era, so everything was done with a typewriter, scissors, glue, and a copy shop.

Eventually, I launched a print magazine called Das Syndikat, which brought together everything that had fascinated me for years: music, subcultures, and film. In its last issues, I even included one or two interviews with performers from the adult entertainment world—something that sparked both criticism and excitement among readers. Due to time constraints, I had to end the magazine, but my interest in the adult film landscape never faded.

At some point, I realized that Germany had many adult magazines, but none that covered the film side of the industry independently and with genuine cultural interest. When I later got my hands on US publications like AVN, it became clear that something similar was missing in the German market.

In 2001, I launched a small print project under a different name. It was an ambitious attempt, but I underestimated the legal hurdles, distribution challenges, and how closed-off parts of the industry were toward a new independent publication. When the internet started becoming a natural outlet for niche media, I decided to shift online and rebrand the project as German-Adult-News.

Interestingly, in the early years, support from US companies and performers was far stronger than in Germany, but over time, things balanced out. More than two decades later, we’re preparing for our 25th anniversary—something I never imagined back in those early DIY fanzine days.

So yes, my business wasn’t planned in a strategic, corporate way. It grew piece by piece from curiosity, subculture journalism, and the desire to create a space where film, culture, and adult entertainment could be discussed openly, respectfully, and with real editorial depth.”

“A fun fact about my journey is that German-Adult-News began in a completely different world. When I started, there was no WordPress, no social media, and definitely no easy way to publish anything online. Everything was handmade—typewriter layouts, scissors, glue, and long nights at the copy shop. Looking back, today’s tools would have felt like science fiction.

Another funny detail is how the early international support completely confused parts of the German industry. A few producers even suspected that I might secretly be a U.S. competitor because so many American companies were willing to collaborate while the local scene remained skeptical.

And the biggest surprise of all: after the first two print issues failed, I planned to shut the whole project down. I kept it online as a small side hobby—and now that ‘little hobby’ is turning 25 years old.

One of my favorite personal memories is how I recorded my very first interviews with a simple cassette recorder, rewinding back and forth for hours because digital recorders were far too expensive.

And over the years, people have made wildly different assumptions about my business. Some were convinced it must be a one-man passion project, others imagined a large editorial team behind the scenes. The truth has always been somewhere in between—but the contrast to the actual economic reality of running a niche magazine has been one of the most amusing parts of the journey.”

Are there any trends you’re watching closely or preparing for in your business strategy?

“Looking ahead, I think the OnlyFans business landscape is moving into a phase of real professionalization. Creators today are no longer just producing content — they’re building brands, managing communities, and developing long-term business strategies. We’re also seeing the rise of hybrid agencies that combine elements of talent management, production, marketing, and tech support.

At the same time, the entire industry is facing increasing regulation, especially around payment processing, youth protection, and compliance. These changes will shape how platforms operate and how creators structure their businesses. It will also be interesting to see how OnlyFans itself evolves — whether it becomes more mainstream, more diversified, or more tools-driven in the years ahead.

AI is another major force. It won’t replace creators, but it will change workflows, open new creative possibilities, and make personalization and fan engagement even more important. The human connection will become the differentiator, not the technology.

And in that environment, independent media platforms like German-Adult-News will continue to play a crucial role. Fans need context; creators need visibility and fair coverage. Neutral, informative journalism helps bridge that gap and makes the ecosystem easier to understand.

Overall, the future belongs to creators who think beyond single posts and build real brands — and to businesses that can adapt quickly to a landscape shaped by tech, regulation, and audience expectations.
